Imo State erupted in jubilation as troops of the Nigerian Army captured a notorious Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) commander, Ifeanyi Eze Okorienta, popularly known as “Gentle de Yahoo.”

The dreaded kingpin, who had long terrorized communities in Okigwe and beyond, was arrested during a coordinated operation at his hideout in Aku-Ihube, Okigwe Local Government Area.

Residents described the arrest as a “huge relief,” noting that the suspect had been linked to violent attacks, kidnappings, and extortion in the region. Security sources said the breakthrough was the result of joint efforts by the 34 Artillery Brigade, sister services, and other agencies.

During the raid, troops recovered one English pistol, 120 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 25 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, one cartridge, six mobile phones, military and police uniforms, and a German flag. A workshop where stolen vehicles were dismantled for resale was also uncovered, while 10 motorcycles found at the scene were destroyed.

“This arrest is a clear message that no criminal, no matter how notorious, can hide forever. The people of Imo can now breathe easier,” a senior military source said.

Beyond Imo, troops also recorded major successes in other states. In Adamawa, five kidnapped victims were rescued in Madagali Local Government Area and reunited with their families.

In Katsina State, soldiers rescued another five victims at Kukasheka Ward in Malumfashi Local Government Area, while two more were freed in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.

In separate operations in Katsina, troops neutralised two terrorists and recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and a motorcycle.

The Army confirmed that one violent extremist was neutralised in Benue State, with a mobile phone and assorted charms recovered.

Also, 11 suspects were arrested across Benue, Kogi, and Kaduna States for armed robbery, gunrunning, and violent extremist activities. In Plateau State, troops recovered 40 rustled cattle, which were promptly returned to their rightful owners.

Military authorities commended the gallantry of the troops and assured Nigerians of continued operations to protect lives and property.

“These successes are part of our renewed resolve to rid every part of this country of criminals. We will not relent until peace is restored,” a senior Army officer stated.

The arrest of Gentle de Yahoo marks a symbolic victory for security forces in the South East, where communities say they now look forward to lasting peace.
