A domestic altercation between two sisters in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has turned tragic, leading to the death of one of them during a dispute over N800.
The deceased, 35-year-old Tewogboye Omowumi, was confronted by her younger sister, Iluyemi Bosede, who demanded repayment of N800 for tomatoes and pepper previously purchased.
It was further gathered that the argument escalated when Bosede grabbed her sister’s clothes, causing Omowumi to fall.
She was rushed to the hospital but was subsequently pronounced dead on arrival.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, said the suspect has been arrested and is being held in custody while investigations continue.
According to the PPRO, in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, “This unfortunate outcome underscores how trivial disputes can spiral into irreversible consequences if not peacefully managed.”
CP Lawal urged residents to resolve disagreements through dialogue and avoid violence, stressing that the police would ensure justice in the matter.
