The Enugu Hackathon 2025 has kicked off its eagerly awaited Campus Rounds, sparking a wave of creativity and innovation across top tertiary institutions in the state. The initiative, designed to discover and empower the brightest student innovators, is already positioning itself as a game-changer for the future of technology — from the lecture halls of Nsukka to the streets of Enugu.

Over the coming weeks, the Hackathon train will make stops at:

  • University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)
  • Coal City University
  • University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC)
  • Institute of Management and Technology (IMT)
  • Godfrey Okoye University

Each round will feature pitches, prototypes, and problem-solving sprints, as students deploy bold, tech-powered solutions to real-world challenges. Winning teams from each campus will advance to the grand finale, where they will compete for more than $100,000 in funding, startup support, and mentorship opportunities.

Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, underscored the significance of the initiative while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to building a digital-first economy.

“The Enugu Hackathon is not just a competition. It is a blueprint for the future we are building — one driven by innovation, powered by our youth, and anchored on our vision of growing Enugu’s economy to $30 billion by 2031,” he said.

The Hackathon is being implemented by the Enugu SME Center and the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Digital Economy and MSMEs, as part of the government’s broader digital transformation strategy.

Mr. Arinze Chilo-Offiah, the Special Adviser and Director-General of the Enugu SME Center, emphasized the transformative power of the project.

“We are witnessing a generational shift. These campus rounds are not just about code and prototypes — they’re about activating the minds that will build the next Flutterwave, the next Andela, right here from Enugu. We’re proud to be building the pipeline that powers Nigeria’s digital future,” he said.

With its blend of youthful energy, innovation, and strong public-private collaboration, the Enugu Hackathon 2025 is fast emerging as one of the most dynamic student tech initiatives in the country.
