Fidelity Advert

The Executive Chairman of Ezeagu Local Government, Dr. Vita Ndu, has been honoured as the Most Corps Member-Friendly Local Government Chairman in Enugu State for the year 2025. The award, presented by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), was conferred on him by the State Coordinator, Mrs. Oluwakemi Awulola.

The presentation ceremony, held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the NYSC Enugu State Secretariat, recognised Dr. Ndu’s outstanding contributions to the welfare, security, and development of corps members serving in Ezeagu LGA.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Awulola described Dr. Ndu as “a shining example of what a local government should represent in corps welfare.”

She noted that while corps members in many areas are often neglected, Dr. Ndu has redefined support for them by providing interventions ranging from security and emergency support to welfare packages, medical assistance, accommodation renovations, community development projects, and farewell recognitions.

“Dr. Ndu has gone beyond the call of duty,” she emphasized.

In appreciation, the Chairman of the Ezeagu Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Igwe Emma Anichebe, praised the NYSC for recognising Dr. Ndu. He described the Chairman as a role model whose leadership has transformed the local government area.

“He does everything with passion, flair, flavour, and style. His footprints are everywhere in Ezeagu, and his performance is highly unprecedented,” the monarch stated.

Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Ubaka Ogbogu, Dean of Aguobu Owa Deanery in the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, described the award as “a recognition of value,” stressing that Dr. Ndu embodies what NYSC stands for.

“The NYSC remains a bond holding this nation together, and other local governments should emulate Ezeagu’s model of leadership,” he added.

Similarly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Chima Obieze, Member representing Ezeagu in the Enugu State House of Assembly, congratulated Dr. Ndu and commended the NYSC for what he described as a well-deserved recognition. He said the award was symbolic of the positive change the chairman represents.

The NYSC Assistant Director of Corps Inspection and Monitoring, Mr. Tony Ibekwe, said Dr. Ndu’s leadership style is “calm, calculative, and people-focused,” stressing that his administration has bridged the gap between corps members and local governance.

Also speaking, Nansel Lamba, the Corps Liaison Officer (CLO) of Ezeagu LGA, hailed Dr. Ndu as “a father to corps members” who never hesitates to meet their needs. The Ezeagu Local Government Inspector, Dr. Jeff Ejiofor Okoro, also highlighted the chairman’s profile and achievements in a brief citation.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Ndu expressed gratitude to NYSC Enugu State and extended appreciation to the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu. He also acknowledged the support of the Enugu State Police Command, led by CP Giwa Bitrus, and the Ezeagu Police Divisions in Umumba, Iwollo, and Aguobu Owa for their role in safeguarding corps members.

“This award is a motivation to do more. It is a reward for a job well done, but also a call to greater service. It is not my achievement alone; it is a team effort,” he said. He further advised corps members to build good habits, noting that “there is a connection between habit and destiny.”

The Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Dr. Igboeme Sabastine, also reiterated the administration’s commitment to corps members’ welfare, highlighting ongoing empowerment programmes in skills acquisition and tech incubation for youth corps members.

The award ceremony was attended by dignitaries including the representative of the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, ACP Abubakar Yunusa, Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Innocent Okozor, council supervisors, aides to the chairman, NYSC officials, corps members, traditional rulers, and religious leaders.

This recognition, coming shortly after Dr. Ndu received the Good Governance Award from the Association of Management and Social Science Researchers of Nigeria earlier this month, further affirms that his leadership is attracting widespread attention. His scorecard, as he marks one year in office, is being hailed as a model that will redefine good governance in Enugu State and beyond.
