A 2023 presidential aspirant, Nyesom Wike, has disclosed the major reason he failed to clinch the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike admitted that he made a costly mistake by allowing his supporters in Kano and Katsina to wear a uniform during the campaign.

It could be recalled that Wike came second in the highly contested PDP primary election, losing to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Wike also claimed that before the primaries, a strategic meeting was held at the home of General Ali Gusau, where critical decisions were made to his disadvantage.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, Wike said:
“I was going to win the 2022 PDP presidential primaries, but it turned out they were meeting in General Ali Gusau’s house.

“They told Saraki and Bala Mohammed to withdraw; they refused.

“The mistake I made was allowing my supporters in Kano and Katsina to wear our uniform.”

Recounting the events of 2022, Wike accused former Senate President David Mark of using his military coup experience to manipulate the election. He further alleged that Sokoto State Governor at the time, Aminu Tambuwal, was promised the Senate presidency in exchange for withdrawing from the primaries.
