The Enugu State Police Command has announced the arrest of thirty-eight (38) suspects as part of an intensified manhunt for the killers of Rev. Fr. Matthew Eya, who was murdered on 19th September 2025 along Eha-Ndiagu Eha-Etiti Road in Eha-Alumona community, Nsukka Local Government Area.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said in a statement that the arrests were made during intensive bush combing operations and raids on criminal hideouts carried out by operatives under the Udenu Area Command. He disclosed that incriminating exhibits were recovered during the raids, while the suspects are currently undergoing screening to determine their involvement.

According to Ndukwe, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, had ordered the operation and reiterated the Command’s determination to track down those behind the killing. “We will leave no stone unturned in apprehending the perpetrators of this heinous crime and bringing them to justice,” the CP vowed.

CP Giwa also extended condolences to the immediate family of the late priest and the Catholic Church, assuring them of the Command’s resolve to secure justice. “We deeply sympathize with the family and the Church. The Police remain committed to ensuring that those behind this crime are brought to book,” he said.

The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and security in the affected area, urging the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid ongoing investigations.
