The Enugu State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that the country home of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Frank Mba, in Ezimo, Udenu Local Government Area, was attacked and that his parents were targeted for kidnap.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement on Sunday, described the claims as false and misleading. He clarified that the incident in question was an armed robbery attempt that was swiftly repelled by police operatives.

“Contrary to the false report, on 18th September 2025, at about 8 p.m., police operatives on routine patrol within the Ezimo community promptly responded to a distress call and repelled an armed robbery attack,” Ndukwe explained.

He added that during the gun duel, one police officer sustained gunshot injuries and later died at the hospital where he was confirmed dead by the attending doctor.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that one male suspect has been arrested and is assisting investigators in the ongoing discreet investigation and manhunt for the fleeing attackers.

Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commiserated with the family of the fallen officer while charging operatives to intensify efforts in tracking down the assailants.

“The Command will sustain the lead already established towards apprehending the fleeing suspects. We remain unwaveringly committed to combating isolated cases of violent crimes in Enugu State,” the CP assured.

The Command therefore urged members of the public to disregard the viral social media post, stressing that no attack was carried out on DIG Frank Mba’s home or relatives.
