The Enugu State Government has concluded a special edition of its Civil Servants Digital Literacy Training Program, this time focusing exclusively on Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) working in the state’s public service.

The training, held at the ESCET ICT Hub and HRC ICT Hub, was designed to equip dozens of PWD civil servants with essential digital skills needed to function effectively in today’s technology-driven workplace.

Participants received practical training in areas such as basic computer operations and productivity tools like Microsoft Word and Excel, aimed at boosting both individual performance and organizational efficiency.

For many participants, the program signaled more than skill acquisition.

“This program means more than just training — it means visibility, inclusion, and progress. I feel better equipped to serve, and proud to be part of a government that sees me,” said Chinyere Mba, an Admin Officer with the Ministry of Gender Affairs.

“We’ve been given the tools to compete, to grow, and to contribute meaningfully. This is real empowerment,” added Ifeanyi Uzochukwu, a clerical staff at the Ministry of Works.

The initiative reflects Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s commitment to inclusive governance, ensuring that no group is left behind in access to opportunities and the future of work. It also underscores his administration’s vision of a digitally competent and forward-thinking civil service.

This PWD-focused edition builds on the momentum of the broader Digital Literacy Program, which has already trained more than 5,000 civil servants and 10,000 public school teachers in under two years. Significantly, the training has become a mandatory requirement for promotion within the civil service—demonstrating the administration’s emphasis on smart governance powered by people and technology.

The program is delivered in partnership with Tech4Dev, Microsoft, Future Ready Academy Limited, and the FCDO, with coordination by the Enugu SME Center / Office of Digital Economy led by Mr. Arinze Chilo-Offiah, Special Adviser to the Governor on Digital Economy and SMEs, and Director-General of the Enugu SME Center, alongside Ndubuisi Edeh, the Digital Literacy Program Lead.

“This is not just a box-checking exercise. It’s part of our Governor’s clear, people-first mandate — to build a future where everyone can thrive and contribute, no matter their physical ability,” said Mr. Arinze Chilo-Offiah.

As Enugu positions itself as a model of digital transformation in Nigeria, the PWD-focused training serves as a powerful example of inclusion being treated not as an afterthought but as a cornerstone of sustainable development.
