Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has lashed out at former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over what he described as “hallucinations and political fabrications” concerning President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement released on Sunday via his X account, Onanuga said El-Rufai has continued to spread unfounded claims, including the speculation that President Tinubu is plotting to remain in office as a “life president.”
“El-Rufai appears to need some help, especially given his recent unfounded claims and speculations about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Onanuga wrote.
According to him, El-Rufai has realised that attempts by his allies in his new political camp to block Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 are already proving futile.
Onanuga noted that the massive reception accorded the President during his visit to Kaduna last Friday unsettled El-Rufai, as it revealed the depth of Tinubu’s support base in the North—contrary to the former governor’s narrative that the region had abandoned him.
“In response, he resorted to spreading further unfounded stories, including the claim that President Tinubu intends to become a life president after 2027—a speculation that is baseless and absurd,” he added.
The presidential aide stressed that Tinubu remains a democrat who will not overstay his constitutional limit.
“President Tinubu is a democrat who does not intend to stay in office beyond May 28, 2031, when re-elected in 2027,” Onanuga stated.
He went further to advise Kaduna State governor Uba Sani to intervene and engage his predecessor.
“Governor Uba Sani may wish to reach out to his predecessor, as El-Rufai could benefit from some professional counselling to steer him away from his recent hallucinations and political fabrications on Tinubu and 2027,” Onanuga said.
