The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, has raised fresh concerns over peace and security in Delta State, urging residents and authorities to act decisively to prevent renewed crisis in the region.

In a communique issued after its congress on Monday, September 22, 2025, the NUJ appealed to all ethnic nationalities in Warri—Ijaw, Itsekiri, Urhobo, and others—to embrace peace and resist actions capable of reigniting conflict.

On security, the journalists decried the spate of child kidnappings in Agbarho Kingdom, Ughelli North Local Government Area, describing the trend as deeply troubling. They called on security agencies to launch urgent and coordinated operations to dismantle the criminal networks responsible. The NUJ further urged law enforcement to intensify efforts against recurring cult clashes in the area.

In a related resolution, the union commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for rolling out legacy projects across Delta State, particularly in Warri, Uvwie, and neighboring communities.

However, the journalists pressed the state government to fast-track ongoing road construction and drainage works in anticipation of the dry season. They also demanded immediate reconstruction of the Udu Express Junction/ECN Road and repairs to the FUPRE Junction stretch of the East-West Road to ease movement for residents and businesses.

The communique was signed by a committee chaired by Comrade Sir Jimitota Onoyeme, with Comrade Elo Edremoda as secretary, and Comrade Onyekachukwu Meluwa and Elder Dele Oguyemi as members.
