The political landscape of Enugu State shifted dramatically on Monday, September 22, 2025, as the influential Ije Awele Movement resurfaced with a resounding endorsement of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for continuity in office.

At a grand briefing in Enugu attended by political stakeholders, civil society leaders, and the press, the movement’s leadership formally announced its “unwavering support” for Governor Mbah, citing his unprecedented socio-economic transformation of the state in just two years.

The group, which had been relatively quiet since the 2023 elections, said its re-emergence was a strategic response to the state’s new trajectory under Mbah. It hailed signature projects such as the launch of Enugu Air, the roll-out of CNG-powered buses, the creation of Smart Schools, and the establishment of modern Farm Estates and a Land Bank.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Hon. Engr. Mike Ogbuekwe, and Director General, Hon. Kingsley Ezinwa, jointly signed the communiqué.

“Dr. Peter Mbah has restored the dignity of Enugu State and placed it firmly on the path to becoming a major economic hub in Nigeria. Our movement is proud to stand with him for sustained progress and prosperity,” the statement declared.

As part of its comeback, the movement unveiled a new structure—including a reconstituted Board of Trustees, executives, zonal and local government coordinators, patrons, and a Campus Connect wing—tasked with grassroots mobilization for continuity in governance.

Observers believe this decisive endorsement from Ije Awele could prove pivotal as Enugu heads toward the 2027 governorship race, with the movement positioning itself as a major player in shaping the political outcome.
