Meta Platforms, Inc. has rolled out a major safety feature on its popular social media platform, Facebook, aimed at strengthening protection for adolescent users.
The feature, known as “Teen Accounts”, allows teenagers to use the app under stricter parental control and content restrictions.
The company, in a statement on Thursday, disclosed that millions of teen accounts have already been placed under the new safety setting.
“We’ve placed hundreds of millions of teens in Teen Accounts across Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger, and now we’re expanding them to teens around the world on Facebook and Messenger,” the company stated.
Meta further revealed that the restrictions cannot be removed without parental consent. The update, which was first introduced on Instagram in 2024, applies to users between the ages of 13 and 17.
