Nkerefi community in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State is poised to make history this Sunday, September 28, as it hosts its first-ever Economic Summit—an event that residents and stakeholders describe as a bold step toward shaping the town’s economic future.
The summit, scheduled to hold at the Community Secondary School, Nkerefi, is spearheaded by the Nkerefi Development Union (NDU). It will bring together illustrious sons and daughters of the land from across the globe, alongside government officials, industry leaders, investors, and thought leaders.
Organisers say the summit will spotlight Nkerefi’s vast untapped economic potential. From its fertile farmlands suitable for rice, maize, cassava, and palm production to opportunities in agro-processing, food industries, and rural industrialisation, Nkerefi aims to position itself as a future food basket and investment destination in the Southeast.
Delivering the keynote address will be Hon. Justice Cyprian Ajah. The event will also be attended by a distinguished lineup of dignitaries, including the Governor of Enugu State, the Chairman of Nkanu East LGA, the National Assembly member for Nkanu East/West, and oil and gas magnate Dr. Uche Ogah.
Another highlight of the day will be the official launch of the Nkerefi Ultramodern Civic Center, a landmark project expected to serve as the community’s premier hub for social, cultural, and developmental activities. Described as the “pride of Nkerefi,” the Civic Center is projected to stand as a lasting symbol of unity and progress.
Speaking ahead of the event, the organisers noted: “This summit is a turning point for Nkerefi, a moment when we take our destiny in our own hands and open our doors to the world.”
