The Councillor representing Obollo Afor Ward in Udenu Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Dr. Nnamdi Odo, has rolled out his one-year scorecard, highlighting a series of legislative, educational, and community development projects that have impacted the lives of his constituents.

Speaking on his journey since his election on September 21, 2024, alongside 259 councillors and 17 LGA chairmen across Enugu State, Odo said he has remained committed to effective grassroots representation.

“Councillorship may be the smallest elected office, but that didn’t deter me from trying to provide quality representation for my people,” Odo stated. “Within this one year, I faced the worst challenge any political office holder will face, but I refused to give excuses. I rose above those challenges because of the love I have for my people.”

He appreciated his team and stakeholders who contributed to the projects recorded under his leadership, noting: “I couldn’t have done this alone without the support of my team. I equally appreciate those who facilitated some of these projects.”

Legislative Impact

Among his notable achievements, Odo sponsored and successfully passed a bill banning open defecation in Udenu LGA in 2023, a move aimed at improving public health and sanitation. He also made history as the first Enugu State legislative leader to emerge as South East Zonal Chairman of the Councillors’ Forum of Nigeria, and the first sitting councillor to earn a Ph.D. while in office.

Education and Human Capital Development

Odo established a bursary scheme that paid the school fees of 15 students for three years, amounting to ₦1.65 million. He also attracted solar street lights to Obollo Afor through Senator Osita Ngwu, and donated school materials worth over ₦1 million to pupils across the ward.

Additionally, the councillor personally donates ₦300,000 termly from his salary to support 15 indigent families across five villages, helping subsidize their children’s school fees.

Grassroots Empowerment and Welfare

Odo also extended support to transportation workers by donating 2,000 liters of fuel to okada and keke riders in the ward, valued at over ₦1 million. He further offset hospital bills amounting to ₦106,000 for three indigent patients.

On governance and leadership style, the councillor emphasized inclusiveness and transparency, noting that he has “maintained effective communication and strong relationships with both stakeholders and non-stakeholders of Obollo Afor, including religious leaders.”

A Benchmark for Local Governance

Summarizing his one-year performance, Odo said: “Our achievements may be modest, but they reflect a rare blend of visionary legislation, educational support, grassroots empowerment, and people-centered leadership.”

Observers in the community have hailed his approach as a model for effective local governance, describing his leadership as one that “sets a new benchmark for councillorship representation in Enugu State.”

“God bless you for celebrating with us,” Odo concluded in his appreciation message to the people of Obollo Afor Ward.
