The Senior Pastor of Kingly People’s Assembly, Bishop Silas Eke, has explained that the Church’s open support for Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is founded on his proven record of performance and commitment to development, not political affiliation.
Speaking during a Sunday service in Umuahia, Bishop Eke said that several prominent clerics—especially from the Catholic, Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist, and Assemblies of God churches—have chosen to support the former Abia State Governor and current Senator representing Abia North because of his outstanding record in leadership and governance.
According to him, clerics have a moral duty to speak truth to power and cannot remain silent while the Abia North zone risks being represented by “unknown figures without meaningful contacts or experience to attract development.”
“Many of us have never met him before. Personally, I don’t have any relationship with him. But as clerics, we are called to speak truth to power. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu remains the best from Abia State, both as a governor and now as a senator. The Church must always be the conscience that tells the truth at all times,” Bishop Eke stated.
The cleric emphasized that the Church’s endorsement of Kalu should not be mistaken for political partisanship but rather seen as recognition of his tangible contributions to education, agriculture, youth empowerment, and infrastructure development.
During his tenure as Governor of Abia State between 1999 and 2007, Orji Uzor Kalu introduced free education policies, rehabilitated major roads across the state, upgraded Abia State University, and established the Abia State Teaching Hospital in Aba. His administration also boosted small and medium-scale enterprises, stabilized the education sector, and improved the welfare of civil servants and judicial officers.
As Senator representing Abia North since 2019, Kalu has continued to deliver projects across his constituency, including rural road construction, school renovations, solar streetlight installations, and borehole projects in the five local government areas and beyond. He has also empowered thousands of youths and women through skill acquisition programs and equipment support, earning national recognition as one of the best-performing senators in constituency development.
“If others refuse to speak out, we will,” Bishop Eke declared. “When a leader delivers, the Church must say so. We appreciate what Senator Kalu has done, and we pray for more leaders with his commitment to service.”
He further urged Christians to continually pray for leaders who govern with sincerity and a genuine desire to serve, describing the Church as the conscience of the nation that must always stand for truth, justice, and fairness.
