The women’s wing of the Enugu State Progressive Group, a political pressure movement founded by the immediate past Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Dr. Ben Nwoye, has honoured Ambassador Amaka Nweke as the Best Commissioner in Enugu State.

The colourful event, held on Saturday in Enugu, was attended by traditional rulers, serving members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, business leaders, women entrepreneurs, and other distinguished awardees who gathered to celebrate excellence and leadership.

The award was presented to Ambassador Nweke during the official inauguration of the leadership of the group.

Speaking to newsmen after receiving the award, the women’s advocate, who serves as a Commissioner at the Enugu State Local Government Service Commission, expressed deep appreciation to the women for the honour bestowed on her. She urged members of the group to remain steadfast to its original vision of promoting good governance in the state.

While appreciating the state governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, for giving her the opportunity to serve in the Commission, Ambassador Nweke called on women to continue supporting the current administration under Mbah’s leadership. She noted that the government has performed exceptionally well across all sectors of the state’s economy.

“I salute Dr. Oby Ajih’s resilience, and I want to call on the group to make unity its watchword. May I also use this medium to ask our women to endeavour to get their voters’ cards ahead of the 2027 general election so as to enable them perform their civic responsibility during the general elections.

.

“Let’s keep supporting our dear working governor, who deserves a second term in office, going by what his administration has achieved in just two years since he assumed office,” she said.

According to Ambassador Nweke, for the group to succeed, members must work together as one united family and shun any act capable of causing division or crisis within the organization.

“I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for being recognized by the Progressive Women Group ably led by the inspiring Dr. Oby Ajih, aka Woman Jagaban, during the inaugural and awards event organized by the group.

“It was a momentous day, marking the beginning of a new chapter for this dynamic group. I dedicate this award to the Almighty God, who has been my guiding light, help, and source of strength.

“I also like to express my heartfelt appreciation and dedication of my award to His Excellency, Governor Barrister Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, and his admirable wife, Her Excellency Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, for giving me a seat at the table and amplifying my voice in Enugu State. Your leadership and commitment to empowering women and girls have created opportunities for us to thrive.

“I’m honoured to be part of a community that empowers and uplifts women. Thanks to the Progressive Women Group for this recognition, and I pledge to continue serving with integrity and dedication. Together, we can.

“I salute Dr. Oby Ajih’s resilience, and I want to call on the group to make unity its watchword. May I also use this medium to ask our women to endeavour to get their voters’ cards ahead of the 2027 general election so as to enable them perform their civic responsibility during the general elections,” Ambassador Nweke concluded.
