The leadership crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has taken a decisive turn as the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party has officially dissolved the faction led by Ugochukwu Agballa and announced a new seven-man caretaker committee to restore the party to its original structure.
This decision was reached on Thursday, 9th October 2025, at the 179th meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) held at its National Secretariat in Abuja, presided over by National Chairman, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda.
According to a press statement issued after the meeting, the NWC approved the dissolution of the Enugu State Executive Committee with immediate effect, following what it called “a comprehensive review of the state of the Party in Enugu State.
“Consequently, a seven-member Caretaker Committee has been constituted to oversee the affairs of the Party in the State,” the NWC said.
The new committee will be inaugurated on Friday, 10th October 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
The development, party insiders say, is part of wider preparations to receive Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Governor of Enugu State, who is expected to formally join the party soon.
The newly constituted APC Enugu State Seven-Man Caretaker Committee is as follows:
- Ben Nwoye — Chairman
- Fidelia Nje Eze — Member
- Peter Cash Chime — Member
- Oby Ajih — Member
- Chidoze Nwafor — Member
- Emma Eke — Member
- Eugene Odoh — Secretary
This marks a major victory for the party’s founding members in Enugu State, who have long accused Ugochukwu Agballa and his allies of hijacking the party “through the backdoor.”
Party stakeholders recalled how Agballa, in alliance with the then Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, allegedly gained access to the party structure through “an illegal takeover,” sidelining key stakeholders who built the APC from scratch in the state.
A senior party source described the NWC’s decision as “a restoration of the party to its real owners and genuine members who have stood by the APC through thick and thin.”
The return of Ben Nwoye and Eugene Odoh to leadership positions is particularly symbolic.
Nwoye, a former state chairman of the APC, was instrumental in building the party’s structure from the ground up in Enugu. Known for his fiery defense of the party’s interests, he led several high-profile campaigns that kept the APC relevant in a state dominated by opposition forces.
Eugene Odoh, a respected political figure and former Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, has been a consistent voice for internal democracy within the party. His re-emergence as Secretary is seen as a move to bring stability, credibility, and experience to the new leadership.
The caretaker committee is expected to be sworn in at the party’s national headquarters tomorrow. Party insiders confirm that the restructuring is in anticipation of Governor Mbah’s imminent defection to the APC — a development expected to significantly alter the political landscape in Enugu ahead of future elections.
With this move, the NWC has effectively ended the controversial leadership chapter that saw Ugochukwu Agballa take over the party structure, paving the way for a return to experienced hands and trusted loyalists.
Political watchers say the development could reposition the APC as a formidable political force in Enugu State.
