The Enugu State Government has taken a major step toward modernizing its public service operations with the acquisition of a state-of-the-art surveying drone—an advanced Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)—for the Office of the Surveyor General of Enugu State.
The initiative, which fulfills a commitment made by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah to enhance service delivery through innovation and technology, is aimed at boosting accuracy, speed, and efficiency in land mapping, modeling, and infrastructural analysis across the state.
The newly procured drone is equipped with high-resolution sensors and cameras capable of capturing airborne data for detailed mapping and analysis, positioning Enugu as a leader in modern surveying operations.
Speaking with journalists on Thursday, the Surveyor General of Enugu State, Surv. Chime Justus Uchenna (Mnis), expressed profound gratitude to the governor for his visionary leadership and commitment to technological advancement.
“I sincerely thank His Excellency for his good leadership and tireless efforts to ensure that the Office of the Surveyor General is well equipped to set the standard for others to follow,” Surv. Uchenna said.
“We assure the government and the people of Enugu State that this drone will be properly managed, and we remain committed to hard work and timely delivery of quality services.”
Experts describe the UAV as a game changer in spatial data collection, providing a faster, safer, and more cost-effective alternative to traditional land surveying methods, which are often time-consuming and labor-intensive.
The Director of Mapping and Geoinformation in the Office of the Surveyor General, Surv. Uchechukwu Udeinya, noted that the investment will enable the office to expand its operational capacity and deliver more precise services to the public.
“This procurement is part of the state government’s broader strategy to leverage technology for improved governance and service delivery,” Udeinya explained.
This development builds on last year’s investment of over ₦30 million in modern Hi Target surveying equipment for the same office—an investment that has already delivered remarkable improvements in operational efficiency, accuracy, and precision.
With the addition of the new drone, the Office of the Surveyor General is now better equipped to support critical state projects in infrastructure development, urban planning, and environmental management.
Officials say the enhanced capacity will not only improve service delivery but also strengthen Enugu’s position as a model for innovative governance and modern land administration in Nigeria.
