The Enugu State Government has unveiled an ambitious land survey digitization project designed to geo-reference and modernize all registered layout surveys across the state, marking a significant step toward streamlined land administration and governance.

Journalist101 reports that the initiative, spearheaded by the office of the Surveyor General, forms part of the administration’s broader Survey Records Modernization Programme.

Professor Victor Chukwuemeka Nnam, a fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors and former Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development in Enugu, has lent his full support to the project.

“This is a transformative step that will revolutionize land administration in the state and protect the integrity of land ownership for generations to come,” Prof. Nnam told journalists on Monday in Enugu.

A public notice, obtained by Journalist101 and signed by the state’s Surveyor General, Surv. Justus Chime, confirmed that the project will involve the revalidation and digitization of all layouts registered with the state.

According to the notice, the initiative aims to create a robust and verifiable digital land database that guarantees accurate ownership records, streamlines documentation, and enhances internally generated revenue.

Governor Peter Mbah’s administration has set a compliance deadline of December 31, 2025, warning that layouts not revalidated by this date will lose official recognition. Affected areas could be denied access to public infrastructure, title confirmations, and future government engagement.

Prof. Nnam emphasized the urgency of participation:

“This is not just an administrative formality. It is a legal and strategic necessity for all landowners, developers, and professionals in the field. Any plot or layout not captured by this deadline risks falling into administrative limbo.”

He urged registered land surveyors, traditional leaders, host communities, and property developers to engage promptly with the process through the office of the Surveyor General or the designated local government survey desks.

“This is a one-time opportunity to safeguard your titles, regularize ownership, and align with global best practices in land administration. Enugu is setting a new standard, and no one should be left behind,” he added.

The digitization drive signals a major modernization milestone for Enugu, aiming to secure land tenure, promote transparency, and strengthen governance in the state.
