Residents of Enugu have in recent days expressed concern over reports of a looming 10-day power outage across parts of the state capital. However, the MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has clarified that the interruption will not last continuously for 10 days but will occur in phases, affecting different parts of the city on specific days.

In a statement signed by its Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh, MEDL explained that the temporary outages are part of ongoing rehabilitation and reinforcement projects being carried out by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) at its New Haven Station in Enugu.

According to the statement, the planned outage will commence on Wednesday, October 22, and end on Thursday, October 31, 2025, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily. The exercise, MEDL said, will involve maintenance work on specific 33KV feeders supplying power to several parts of the Enugu metropolis.

The affected feeders include Kingsway Line 1 & 2, Emene Industrial Line 1 & 2, Thinkers Corner, Trans-Ekulu, Ugwuogo, and Ituku Ozalla.

Clarifying further, the company said the exercise would be carried out on *different feeders each day*, meaning customers will only experience power interruption on the day their feeder is scheduled for maintenance.

“As a result, the exercise will be carried out on respective feeders daily, starting with Kingsway Line 1 on October 22, followed by Emene Industrial Line 1 on October 23, Thinkers Corner on October 24, Trans-Ekulu on October 25, Kingsway Line 2 and 9th Mile on October 26, Emene Industrial Line 2 on October 28, Ugwuogo on October 29, and Ituku Ozalla on October 31, 2025,” the statement read.

MEDL emphasized that the planned interruptions are necessary to upgrade power infrastructure and enhance supply reliability in Enugu.

“We therefore regret any inconvenience this exercise will cause our esteemed customers and appeal for their understanding as the project is aimed at improving the service quality,” Ezeh stated.

The company urged customers to bear with the temporary inconvenience, assuring them that the rehabilitation project will result in more stable and efficient power delivery once completed.
