A Catholic priest, Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, has ignited nationwide controversy after declaring that the embattled marriage between Nigerian billionaire and politician, Ned Nwoko, and Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels, was never built on genuine love but on “mutual greed and self-interest.”
Fr. Ugwu made the statement while reacting to reports of a brewing marital crisis between the high-profile couple. The outspoken cleric alleged that Nwoko, a polygamist and senator, married Regina not out of affection but from a desire to satisfy his obsession with marrying a young virgin.
According to him, Regina, on her part, was attracted not by love but by Nwoko’s wealth, fame, and political status.
“Ned was obsessed with virginity; Regina was obsessed with wealth. They both got what they wanted,” Fr. Ugwu said pointedly.
“This is not a sacred marriage—it is a contract born out of greed. So whatever is happening now is a consequence of their choices.”
Fr. Ugwu went further to describe the union as a “transactional arrangement,” insisting that both parties entered the relationship with clear material motives and therefore have no moral justification to lament its breakdown.
He added that the situation serves as a cautionary tale about modern celebrity marriages built on vanity rather than shared values.
“This marriage was never about love; it was a business deal sealed by lust and greed. When the glamour fades, reality always strikes,” the priest concluded.
The remarks have triggered a flurry of reactions across social media, with many Nigerians sharply divided over his comments. While some praised the priest for “saying the truth,” others accused him of crossing ethical boundaries by publicly commenting on a private marital issue.
