The Anambra State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into a disturbing video circulating on social media, allegedly depicting a group of young boys performing a cult initiation ritual involving a minor.

According to a statement released on Friday, October 24, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the video, which has sparked outrage online, contains scenes that the Command described as “criminal, immoral, and a grave violation of the rights and safety of minors.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu (fwc, minps, PhD), has ordered specialized units—including the Anti-Cultism Squad, the Juvenile Welfare Unit, and the State Intelligence Department—to jointly investigate the video. The operatives have been tasked to:

  • Verify the authenticity and origin of the footage,
  • Identify and ensure the safety of the minor involved, and
  • Track down and apprehend all suspects linked to the alleged act.

“The Command condemns, in the strongest terms, any form of child abuse, indoctrination, psychological grooming, or forced initiation,” CP Orutugu said. “Such acts will never be tolerated under any circumstances in Anambra State.”

The police are also calling on members of the public with credible information to assist the ongoing investigation. Citizens are urged to reach out through emergency hotlines 112, 07039194332, or contact the Public Relations Officer directly via 08039334002. The Command assured that all information will be treated confidentially and that the identities of informants will be fully protected.

“We remain firmly committed to protecting children, combating cultism, and enforcing the law decisively to maintain peace and security across the state,” the CP reassured.

The Command reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against youth cultism and child exploitation, emphasizing that swift action will be taken once the perpetrators are identified.
