The Senate on Thursday confirmed Dr. Bernard Doro as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, following a brief yet commendatory screening session that underscored his experience and leadership capacity.

Dr. Doro, a technocrat from Plateau State, becomes the third minister from the state in President Bola Tinubu’s administration. His screening, which lasted less than 30 minutes, was marked by glowing commendations from lawmakers who described him as “eminently qualified and well-prepared” for national service.

During the session, Dr. Doro pledged to bring fairness, transparency, and inclusivity to Nigeria’s humanitarian interventions.

“I will create a humanitarian ecosystem that is inclusive, guided by impartiality and independence,” he assured the Senate.

Expressing satisfaction with his presentation and credentials, the lawmakers unanimously approved his nomination after the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, asked him to “take a bow and leave.”

President Tinubu had earlier forwarded Dr. Doro’s name to the Senate for confirmation in accordance with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). The request was read by Akpabio and referred to the Committee of the Whole for immediate consideration.

Dr. Doro’s appointment follows the elevation of his predecessor, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, who now serves as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga earlier described Dr. Doro as a seasoned professional with over two decades of experience spanning clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, and strategic leadership in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Born on January 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Doro holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA in IT-driven Business Strategy, and a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice.

“He is an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner with NHS frontline experience across urgent care, walk-in centres, GP practices, and hospital settings,” Onanuga noted.

With Thursday’s confirmation, Dr. Doro is expected to be sworn in by President Tinubu at the next meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
