…Police Launch Manhunt for Kidnappers

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of a medical doctor in Uruagu, Nnewi, located in Nnewi North Local Government Area of the state.

According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday, October 30, 2025, when unidentified gunmen allegedly abducted the victim under circumstances yet to be fully determined.

Police spokesperson SP Ikenga Tochukwu, in a statement released on Thursday, October 31, 2025, said the Command received a formal report of the abduction and had immediately launched a full-scale investigation.

“Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, MNIPS, PhD, ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams to ensure the safe rescue of the victim and the arrest of the perpetrators,” the statement read.

The Command assured the public that all necessary efforts are being intensified to track down those responsible, while urging residents to remain calm and assist with credible intelligence.

“The CP further calls on residents, especially within Nnewi and its environs, to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of the Police by providing useful information that could assist in the investigation,” SP Ikenga stated.

He added that anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact the nearest Police Station or reach the Command Control Room via 07039194332 or the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) via 08039334002 for prompt response.

The statement reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, stressing that law enforcement officers will not relent until the abductors are brought to justice.

“The Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to the safety and security of all residents and will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those behind such criminal acts are apprehended and prosecuted,” Ikenga said.

Meanwhile, the abduction has sparked concern among residents of Nnewi and its environs, with calls for heightened security around hospitals and residential areas.
