…warns that Christianity faces an “existential threat” in Nigeria, directs Congress to act against what he calls “mass slaughter by radical Islamists.”

President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, has sounded an alarm over what he described as the “mass killing of Christians” in Nigeria, declaring the country a “Country of Particular Concern” over worsening religious persecution.

In a statement released from the White House, President Trump warned that “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria,” alleging that “radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter.”

“Thousands of Christians are being killed,” President Trump said. “When Christians, or any such group, is slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria — 3,100 versus 4,476 worldwide — something must be done!”

The U.S. leader said he had directed Congressman Riley Moore, together with Chairman Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee, to “immediately look into this matter and report back.”

“I am hereby making Nigeria a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ — but that is the least of it,” Trump declared. “The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria and numerous other countries.”

The President emphasized that the United States has a moral obligation to defend persecuted Christians around the world, warning that silence in the face of such atrocities would be unacceptable.

“We stand ready, willing, and able to save our great Christian population around the world!” Trump said.

The statement has drawn sharp global attention, with human rights groups and religious organizations urging the Nigerian government to take stronger action to halt recurring attacks and killings in parts of the country.
