…As JAMB Accredits ESPOLY Courses — A New Dawn for Education in Ezeagu

In a major leap for education and youth empowerment in Enugu State, the Member representing Ezeagu Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Chima Obieze, has unveiled the “Ezeagu 50 Scholarship Scheme” and renewed his commitment to reviving Enugu State Polytechnic (ESPOLY), Iwollo. This comes as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has fully accredited all ESPOLY courses, opening the door for fresh admissions into the institution.

Obieze announced the scholarship during a strategic visit to the polytechnic on October 30, 2025, where he was warmly received by the Rector, Rev. Fr. Prof. Nnamdi Nwankwo, principal officers, and staff. The scholarship initiative, according to him, will cover the full tuition fees for the first 50 Ezeagu indigenes who secure admission into ESPOLY, ensuring that the host community benefits directly while boosting student enrollment.

“A major concern raised was the low enrollment of Ezeagu indigenes, particularly students, in the institution. To address this, I announced an immediate scholarship for the first 50 Ezeagu indigenes who gain admission to the polytechnic this academic session,” Obieze stated.

“Interested individuals should visit the JAMB office to change their institution to Enugu State Polytechnic and contact Maurice Anijiofor at +2347065036395 to facilitate the admission process,” he added.

The lawmaker also pledged to recognize and reward the top three staff members annually with ₦100,000 each to enhance productivity and morale. He further promised to push for Public-Private Partnership (PPP) hostel projects to improve student accommodation, while assuring he would take all staff welfare concerns to the state government for prompt attention, adding that his efforts align with Governor Peter Mbah’s vision to transform ESPOLY into a University of Agriculture.

“I assured the management that I would continue working with His Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah, to ensure the institution’s growth and eventual upgrade to a University of Agriculture. This initiative will not only bring development but also provide quality education to Ezeagu sons and daughters at their doorstep,” Obieze affirmed.

The visit was attended by notable figures, including Dr. Celestine Odenigbo, Chief Samuel Okafor, Amb. Dr. Chiesonu Iziga, President of Ezeagu Sons and Daughters, and several student leaders. Staff representatives, including ASUP Leader Comrade Mrs. Adama Jane, highlighted issues such as unpaid promotion arrears since 2015 and pension challenges. Others who spoke included Barr. Dr. Louise E. Onwudinjo, Mr. Ikechukwu Okolo (Bursar’s Representative), Principal Assistant Registrar Ozomma Nicodemus Ifeanyi Chukwu, and Mr. O.J Uche.
