Detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos, have arrested a notorious taxi driver, Adedayo Ben Adegbola, alleged to be behind multiple cases of rape, defilement, assault, and armed robbery targeting unsuspecting female passengers across the state.
The suspect, who had recently gone viral on social media after several women shared harrowing accounts of their encounters with him, was apprehended following a coordinated sting operation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohunnire Jimoh.
Confirming the arrest in a statement on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Adebisi, said Adegbola was arrested on Friday, October 31, 2025, at about 9:40 a.m. in Lagos after a painstaking investigation.
“Following strict directives from the Commissioner of Police, detectives of the SCID launched a discreet and thorough investigation into multiple complaints from victims of the suspect’s criminal acts,” Adebisi stated.
She further disclosed that the police recovered a red Toyota Corolla with registration number JJJ 226 HT, which the suspect allegedly used to carry out his crimes.
“The operational vehicle being used by the suspect to commit the offences was recovered from his possession and secured as an exhibit,” she said.
The Lagos State Police Command noted that Adegbola is currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down other possible accomplices linked to the string of violent attacks.
Authorities also urged other victims to come forward to aid the investigation, assuring that their identities would be fully protected.
Commissioner Jimoh reaffirmed the police’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims and safety for all residents.
“We remain resolute in guaranteeing the safety and security of every Lagos resident. Justice will be served,” the Commissioner assured.
Meanwhile, the police spokesperson added that further updates on the investigation and prosecution would be released in due course.
