The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has come under public scrutiny after its chairman, Jaret Tenebe, made a startling declaration of absolute loyalty to Governor Monday Okpebholo, saying the party members would “do whatever he tells us” without question.
Tenebe made the controversial remarks in a viral video from the “Edo State City Boy Employment 2025” event, where he reaffirmed the party’s unwavering allegiance to both Governor Okpebholo and President Bola Tinubu.
“Our loyalty to our governor is of no break, no gear, no sense,” Tenebe said, drawing mixed reactions across political circles.
Clarifying his statement, the APC chairman explained that the governor’s leadership must not be questioned, describing him as the party’s guide and strategist.
“Anything the governor tells us to do, we cannot argue, because he has all the special advice and all the special assistance,” Tenebe stated.
Using a vivid metaphor, he likened the party’s loyalty to a vehicle without brakes or gears, emphasizing its unstoppable devotion to the governor.
“If you have ever seen a vehicle or truck with no gear and descending, you know how deadly such a vehicle is,” Tenebe said. “That’s what we are as a party in this state. Because we have no sense.”
The party chairman further revealed that the governor had directed all members to ensure overwhelming support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in future elections.
“The governor has already told us that 3.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu must be guaranteed—and it is already settled,” he declared.
Tenebe’s remarks have since sparked widespread debate, with critics accusing the APC leadership in the state of promoting blind allegiance over democratic reasoning, while supporters defend it as a metaphor for party discipline and unity.
