The General Overseer of Light of the World International Church, Prophet Joshua Arogun, has predicted that Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, could lose his re-election bid in 2027 if he fails to defect from his current political party.
Speaking during a Wednesday ministerial service in Lagos, Prophet Arogun said the warning came as a divine message and not a product of personal opinion. He cautioned that Otti risks becoming a one-term governor if he ignores the revelation.
According to the cleric, Mascot Uzor Kalu, who recently declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election under the All Progressives Congress (APC), could spring a major surprise at the polls and unseat the incumbent.
“I do not know what everyone in that state wants, but I can see a silent majority of the people preparing heavily to vote for Mascot Uzor Kalu and take over the state,” Arogun said.
“I can see his large supporters and the heavy preparation that is ongoing. The incumbent governor is popular, but his current party will disappoint him. He will face the biggest embarrassment of his political life because he may not have a party to contest with. If he must win, he must make sure he changes his party and avoid running against Mascot Kalu.”
He added that both men have the potential to perform well as governors, but ultimately, “God gives power to whom He chooses.”
On the controversy surrounding U.S. claims of Christian genocide in Nigeria, Prophet Arogun said persecution of Christians has long existed, particularly in northern Nigeria.
“God recognizes the persecution of the church and His people. Christians in the North have suffered enough oppression, and it’s only the hand of God that could energize America to act on this incessant killing of Christians,” he said.
“It only tells us that God has not forgotten His people. He may allow it to happen for some time, but it won’t last forever.”
Prophet Arogun also spoke on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying his emergence as president was ordained for a time such as this.
“God allowed President Tinubu to preside over Nigeria because of times like this. He has what it takes to handle the situation, and it could have created consequences if Tinubu was not the president. He will win again because God has given it to him,” he declared.
The prophet concluded with prayers for Nigeria and its leadership, asking for divine guidance and wisdom for the nation’s rulers.
In a related development, Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, echoed a similar warning, predicting that Otti’s re-election chances could face serious resistance if Mascot Uzor Kalu runs under the APC in 2027.
“In Abia State, if Mascot Uzor Kalu comes out for the 2027 governorship, then it’s going to be tough for Governor Alex Otti. It’s gonna be very tough,” Primate Ayodele said.
He added that the outcome would not depend on incumbency but on “strategy, momentum, and political identity.”
“It all depends. If he [Mascot] knows his way, he can defeat Alex Otti. That name is strong, but you may not see it that way, either if you are a sitting governor or not,” Ayodele stated.
