A new era of transformation has begun at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, as the Rector, Professor Chigozie Ogbodo, inaugurated the Central Planning Committee (CPC) for the official launch of the NEW IMT PROJECT Initiative — a comprehensive program aimed at renovating and beautifying the institution while promoting educational excellence and economic sustainability.
The announcement came during a solidarity visit by prominent alumni of IMT, led by Hon. Monday Diamond Ani, National Vice President of the IMT Alumni Association, and Hon. Princess Obiajulu Ugwu, Chief Whip of the Enugu State House of Assembly.
During the visit, the Rector expressed his commitment to repositioning IMT as a model of innovation and aesthetics in tertiary education, emphasizing that the initiative represents a collaborative effort between the school, government, and its alumni network.
“This project is about restoring pride to IMT — creating a conducive learning environment that matches our academic ambition,” Prof. Ogbodo said. “The NEW IMT PROJECT is not just about buildings; it’s about building a future that reflects the excellence IMT stands for.”
Theme: Renovation & Beautification of IMT — Driving Educational Excellence through Conducive Learning and Economic Sustainability
The NEW IMT PROJECT Initiative will serve as a platform to attract capital support from distinguished alumni, corporate organizations, and development partners for the holistic renewal of IMT’s infrastructure.
According to the Rector, the official launch of the project will take place in the second week of December 2025 at the IMT International Conference Centre, Enugu.
Central Planning Committee Inaugurated
To drive the project, Prof. Ogbodo inaugurated a 35-member Central Planning Committee, appointing Hon. Monday Diamond Ani (Odoziobodo) as Chairman, and Hon. Princess Obiajulu Ugwu as Co-Chairman.
Other notable members include:
Dr. Emeka Ejim (Deputy Rector, IMT); Hon. Frank Aninwike (Chairman, ENSAA); Dr. Peter Nwankwo; Dr. Ben Ihejilika; Hon. Uche Ugwu; Mr. IK Nnamani; Comr. Isiani Kingsley; Amb. Mark Onuoha; Comr. Madukaihe Emmanuel (Ochiagha Udi); Pastor Ibelan Precious; Comr. Dominic Udeobasi; Comr. Onah Joseph Onyemaechi; Comr. Nso Favour; Comr. Ejimba Anthony; Comr. Okenna Gerrard; Hon. Dr. Hyacinth Nwankwo was appointed as the Secretary of the Committee.

A Year of Remarkable Achievements
The inauguration followed the celebration of Prof. Ogbodo’s one-year anniversary as Rector, marked by unprecedented achievements, including:
- Full accreditation of all IMT academic programs.
- Commissioning of TETFUND-funded and Enugu State-supported infrastructure projects.
- Establishment of IMT Bottled and Sachet Water Factory and IMT Confectionery.
- Payment of staff salary arrears through state intervention.
- Conversion of part-time and ad-hoc staff into permanent employees.
- Unveiling of the NEW IMT PROJECT initiative.
Government Endorsement
The event also attracted the Enugu State Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Dr. Lawrence Eze (Prince of Mburubu), who pledged full support for the initiative.
“This project is visionary and aligns with the state’s goal of integrating innovation with education. IMT’s renewal will not only benefit the institution but also drive socio-economic growth across Enugu State,” Dr. Eze said.

In their acceptance speeches, Hon. Ani and Hon. Princess Ugwu expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to mobilize alumni and stakeholders for the project’s success.
“We are committed to delivering visible results. The NEW IMT PROJECT will redefine the future of IMT and inspire institutions across Nigeria,” Ani assured.
Princess Ugwu added,
“This is about legacy — giving back to the institution that gave us a foundation. We will work tirelessly with the team to ensure this dream becomes reality.”
