The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has intensified its clampdown on electoral malpractice, arresting three suspected vote buyers during Saturday’s Anambra governorship election.
In a statement posted on its official X handle on Saturday, November 8, 2025, the anti-graft agency confirmed that its operatives made the arrests across multiple locations in the state while monitoring the polls.
The suspects were identified as Emeka Ilokasia, apprehended at Ward 2, Njikoka Local Government Area; Nwachukwu Loretta, arrested at Ward 2 (008), Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area; and Emuka Chuwudi, picked up at Umunachi Village, Dunukofia Local Government Area.
According to the EFCC, the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to curb financial inducement and voter manipulation during elections, in line with its broader mandate to ensure transparency and integrity in Nigeria’s democratic process.
“All the suspects were arrested while participating in the governorship election held on Saturday, November 8, 2025,” the statement read. “They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”
Though the Commission didn’t disclose the parties of the suspects, one of the suspects was wearing APGA tag during the arrest.
