Residents of Amadim-Ukehe community in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State were thrown into shock on Wednesday morning after discovering a mini-truck driver dead inside his vehicle, allegedly after a night of heavy drinking.
Eyewitnesses said the unidentified driver had reportedly locked himself inside the truck the previous night after consuming alcohol. By morning, he was found lifeless, with all the windows tightly wound up — suggesting possible suffocation.
Facebook user Ochu Loveth Tochi, who shared the incident online, said the deceased was seen motionless inside the vehicle when locals gathered around in disbelief.
“He had wound up all the windows of the mini truck and slept there while he was drunk, and he got suffocated,” she wrote.
Residents speculated that the victim, who was said to have been visibly intoxicated, may have fallen asleep inside the locked vehicle, unaware of the danger posed by lack of ventilation.
Security operatives from the Ogbede Police Division later arrived at the scene, evacuated the body, and began an investigation to determine the exact cause of death.
Police authorities have yet to release the deceased’s identity or confirm whether alcohol poisoning or suffocation was responsible for his death.
The tragic incident has sparked conversations among residents on the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption and the importance of proper ventilation when sleeping inside enclosed vehicles.
