The Enugu State Government has opened a wide-ranging scholarship programme, creating new opportunities for indigenes at undergraduate, postgraduate, and teacher-education levels.

Approved by Governor Dr. Peter Mbah, the initiative is being administered by the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board under the Ministry of Education.

In a statement released on Thursday, Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ndubueze Mbah, disclosed that the programme provides a total of 1,600 scholarship slots: 500 for undergraduates, 1,000 for teachers, and 100 for postgraduate candidates pursuing Master’s and PhD degrees in Nigerian institutions for the 2025 academic year.

“The Teachers’ Scholarship is specifically designed for indigenous teachers in Enugu State Government schools who wish to pursue Master’s degrees and are willing to serve in the state’s education system for ten years after completing their studies,” Prof. Mbah explained.

Applicants must be confirmed indigenes of Enugu State and have valid admission into an approved programme for the 2025/2026 academic session. Required documents include an LGA identification letter, admission and acceptance letters, attestation from a traditional ruler, and a passport photograph. Teachers must also provide their employment letters.

“All documents must be uploaded online as a single PDF file not exceeding 2MB,” Prof. Mbah emphasized. He added that applications should be submitted via https://apply.esselb.en.gov.ng. The application window for undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships opens 14 November 2025 and closes at midnight on 28 November 2025, while the Teachers’ Scholarship will close on 8 December 2025.

The Commissioner also announced that the scholarship examination will be conducted as an online computer-based test (CBT), allowing candidates to participate from any location with reliable internet access. “Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for the online examination,” he noted.

Prof. Mbah encouraged visually impaired students and students with disabilities in 100 and 200 levels to apply, adding that applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis, and incomplete submissions will not be considered.

He commended Governor Mbah for his continued investment in the education sector, describing the 2025 scholarship programme as part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening learning outcomes and expanding access to higher education in Enugu State.
