The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Orogun (FEPO), Delta State, Prof. Duke Okoro, has congratulated the institution’s Polytechnic Librarian, Prof. Edwin Iroroeovwo Achugbue, on his election as Chairman of the Committee of Monotechnic and Polytechnic Librarians in Nigeria (COMPLIN).

Prof. Achugbue emerged winner during the 66th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of COMPLIN, held in Abuja, where delegates from monotechnic and polytechnic libraries across the country gathered to review the state of the profession and chart a new direction for the future.

Describing the victory as “a national endorsement of excellence,” the Rector praised the Polytechnic Librarian for distinguishing himself both within the institution and across Nigeria’s tertiary education landscape.

“This election is a testament to the calibre of leadership we nurture at Federal Polytechnic Orogun,” Prof. Okoro said. “Prof. Achugbue is a thoroughbred professional, an innovative academic, and a shining ambassador of our institution. His emergence as COMPLIN Chairman is not a surprise, it is a confirmation of what we already know: that FEPO is blessed with exceptional leaders.”

The Rector further noted that the achievement reflects the Polytechnic’s steady rise as a centre of academic innovation, discipline, and professional excellence.

“At FEPO, we encourage our staff to lead, to innovate, and to set national standards,” he added. “Prof. Achugbue’s new role aligns perfectly with our vision of producing and supporting leaders who contribute meaningfully to the development of Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.”

Prof. Achugbue, who was elected after what participants described as a keenly contested and transparent process, had earlier pledged to promote innovation, resource-sharing, digital transformation, and capacity building across Nigeria’s monotechnic and polytechnic libraries.

Delegates at the AGM highlighted lingering challenges within the subsector, such as limited funding, digital infrastructure gaps, and the need for continuous professional development, and expressed optimism that the new leadership would bring renewed energy and direction.

Prof. Okoro expressed confidence that Prof. Achugbue would provide purposeful, nationally impactful leadership to COMPLIN.

“He has always demonstrated excellence in service delivery at Federal Polytechnic Orogun,” the Rector remarked. “We are proud that the rest of the country now sees what we see every day, competence, vision, and integrity.”

Prof. Achugbue’s election, stakeholders say, marks the beginning of a new era for COMPLIN as it seeks greater visibility and stronger collaboration among library professionals in Nigeria’s tertiary education landscape.

The Federal Polytechnic Orogun community has continued to celebrate the achievement as another milestone in the institution’s growing reputation for academic and professional distinction.
