The Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has reiterated that maintaining security in the state is a shared responsibility between the Police and the public.

The CP stated this during a roundtable discussion on Wednesday, November 20, 2025, themed: “The Nigerian Police and the Challenges of Policing at the Sub-National Level: Is State Police a Viable Option?”

The CP was represented by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, at the event which took place at the IPBS Boardroom, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

Organized by the Institute for Peace, Security and Development Studies in collaboration with the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), the roundtable brought together distinguished participants, including Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Chiobi (Rtd), Special Adviser on Security to the Governor of Anambra State, HRH Igwe P.O. Omachonu, Prof. Amaka Joe-Iguh, representatives of civil society organizations, academia, and members of the media. Participants engaged in a robust discussion on strategies to enhance policing at the sub-national level.

CP Orutugu stressed that effective policing cannot be achieved by the Police alone, but requires trust, cooperation, and active involvement from the community.

“Only through unity of purpose can Anambra achieve sustainable peace and safety,” he said, urging residents to demonstrate greater concern and collaborate with the Police to improve security service delivery.

The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Community-Police partnerships and enhancing the overall security framework across the state.
