A 24-year-old man, identified as Joshua Kosoro, has died by suicide in Umuogodo Akpu community, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, after reportedly telling his relatives that he had been hearing “strange voices.”
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Ebonyi State Police Command, SP Joshua Ukandu, said Kosoro had recently returned from Lagos to his hometown when he confided in his family about the disturbing experiences. The tragedy occurred on Sunday, November 16.
According to Ukandu, Kosoro took his life shortly after his relatives stepped out to seek help for his condition. “He said that the voices talk to him and always ask him to do strange things,” Ukandu stated.
He explained that the family left home in search of a solution, leaving the young man alone. “As everyone was away from the house, he stayed back; before they could come back, they saw that he had hanged himself to death,” he said.
Police officers who arrived at the scene evacuated the body, which was later certified dead at the hospital. Ukandu added that the case was reported to the police by Kosoro’s relatives, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident has already commenced.
