Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has alleged that the Federal Government has secretly transferred detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to a “dangerous” correctional facility in Sokoto State — a move he described as a calculated attempt to isolate and endanger him.
Sowore made the claim in a post on his Facebook handle, stating that the decision to relocate Kanu was intentional and part of a broader effort to keep him far away from his support base.
According to him, “The Tinubu regime has secretly transferred Nnamdi Kanu to Sokoto prison. Yes, they have already planned it. Their intention since yesterday was to move Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to a notorious prison based in the northern parts, where his safety cannot be guaranteed.”
He alleged that security officials admitted they rejected the option of keeping Kanu at Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja because of fears that he would receive overwhelming support.
Sowore wrote: “They openly said he would ‘become a king’ if taken to Kuje correctional center in Abuja, because according to them, ‘Igbo people’ and his supporters would turn Kuje into a place of pilgrimage.”
The activist further claimed that the relocation was designed to keep Kanu “isolated and vulnerable,” accusing authorities of using psychological tactics to mislead the public.
“That is why they activated their cronies to start selling the illusion of ‘renewed hope’ for MNK — a psychological tactic to keep the public calm while they execute their darkest agenda,” Sowore said. “Their plan is simple: to keep your hopes alive just long enough for him to die in custody.”
He insisted that the government has “no intention of releasing him, not even for political calculations or electoral convenience.”
Sowore also accused politicians from Kanu’s region of working against efforts to secure his release.
“I have said it before without fear — MNK’s greatest enemies are the politicians from his own region. They fear his influence, they fear his connection to the people, and they want him silenced permanently. This is why they fought tooth and nail to frustrate our #FreeNnamdiKanuNOW protest.”
He ended the post with a warning: “Do not say I didn’t warn you. #RevolutionNow.”
