Fidelity Advert

A heartbroken farmer, Sherriff Almuhajir, has poured out his anguish after discovering that herdsmen had once again devoured and destroyed the farm he laboured tirelessly to build—an attack he says has finally pushed him to the breaking point.

Sharing his grief on Saturday, Almuhajir said he had invested enormous effort into doing everything right on his farm, refusing to give up despite government policies that continue to frustrate farmers nationwide. According to him, the farm had been thriving, and he had remained committed to food production even in the face of insecurity and worsening economic conditions.

But all of that was wiped out overnight.

This morning I woke up to the terrible news that herdsmen have completely devoured and destroyed my farm,” he said in despair. “Last year they did the same thing and caused me huge losses. I complained, and they said I don’t want peace. Now look, they deliberately let their cattle—almost 500 of them—loose at night, and the cows finished off my entire farm.

The devastated farmer, known for encouraging others to go into agriculture, said the repeated destruction of his livelihood has left him emotionally drained and without hope.

Honestly, I am one of those who strongly encourage people to go into farming, but if this kind of disaster is going to keep happening… then as for me, from today onward, I swear I am done. I give up,” he declared.

Almuhajir’s cry echoes the growing frustration of farmers across Nigeria, many of whom have suffered crippling losses due to rampant cattle incursions, rising insecurity, and the absence of meaningful government intervention.

His experience reignites urgent questions about whether small-scale farmers can continue to survive in a climate where their labour, investment, and dreams can be destroyed overnight—with no accountability in sight.
