The Enugu State Police Command has dismissed as “entirely false and baseless” a report by Sahara Reporters alleging that female officers were directed to pay mandatory fees for the 70th Nigeria Women Police Anniversary celebration.
In a statement signed by SP Daniel Ndukwe, Police Public Relations Officer for the Enugu State, on Sunday, the Command said no such directive was ever issued at any time to any female officer—“whether senior or junior”—and described the allegation as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.
“The Command categorically refutes this claim as entirely false, baseless, and without any iota of truth,” the statement read.
The Command emphasised that the Nigeria Police Force operates with well-established and standardized procedures for issuing official orders, and insisted that the format and platform of the circulating message proved it did not emanate from the institution.
Ndukwe noted that: “The format and platform through which the purported directive was circulated clearly show that it could not have emanated from the Command,” it added.
He added that to this end, the Commissioner of Police Mamman Bitrus Giwa has ordered the State Intelligence Department (SID) to launch a full investigation to uncover the originators of the WhatsApp message, describing it as misleading and malicious.
CP Giwa called on members of the public to disregard the report entirely and urged any female officer who may have been deceived into making any payment to come forward and assist with the investigation.
