Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has formally announced the passing of its Deputy Secretary-General, Chief Sir Dan Okenyi (Olikeze), who was laid to rest on Friday, November 21, 2025, in his hometown of Ukwu-Nzu, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State. He died at the age of 68.

A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, said the funeral service, held at Bethel Anglican Church, Ogbe Okwe Quarters, Ukwu-Nzu, was officiated by the Anglican Bishop of Asaba Diocese, Rt. Rev. Kingsley C. Obuh.

In his sermon, the Bishop paid glowing tribute to the late Chief Okenyi, describing him as “a devoted Knight of the Church and a committed contributor to the growth of the Diocese.”

Dr. Ezechi said the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator John Azuta Mbata, was represented at the burial by the Secretary-General, His Excellency Emeka Sibeudu, who led the organisation’s high-powered delegation and delivered the President-General’s condolence message.

In his tribute, Senator Mbata described Chief Okenyi as “a patriot, a seasoned technocrat and a gentleman whose service to the public sector, Delta State and Ndi Igbo remains exemplary.” He prayed for God to grant eternal rest to his soul and to comfort his widow, children and the entire Okenyi family.

Members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) present at the funeral included Mazi Omife Omife (Vice President-General, Anambra), Dr. Peter Mbam (VPG), Chief John Duru (VPG), Dr. Ezechi Chukwu (National Publicity Secretary) and Barr. Chizoba Iheka (Assistant National Legal Adviser). The delegation was received by the Ohanaeze Delta State President, Mr. Ben Igumbor, alongside his executive members and several notable Igbo leaders in Delta State, including Chief Ejiofor Onyia, Prince Frank Nwandu and Mrs. Lizzy Chiazor.

Until his death, Chief Sir Dan Okenyi held several prominent public service positions in Delta State, serving as Sole Administrator of Aniocha North LGA, Clerk of the Delta State House of Assembly, Commissioner for Lands & Survey and Commissioner for Culture & Tourism. Ohanaeze Ndigbo described his legacy as one marked by integrity, dedication and a strong commitment to the advancement of Ndi Igbo.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo concluded its message by praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
