As the festive season approaches, the Enugu State Police Command has launched a decisive strike against cultists and drug traffickers, raiding multiple criminal hideouts, arresting three suspects, and recovering large quantities of Ghanaian Loud and other variants of Cannabis Sativa.

The operation forms part of the Command’s intensified efforts to curb criminality and ensure public safety across the state.

According to the press release, on 23rd November 2025, at around 9:15 a.m., the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad raided a hideout at Holy Ghost near Railway Market Road, Enugu. Ani Chinecherem, 23, was arrested with quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

Upon interrogation, Chinecherem confessed to belonging to the Junior Vikings Confraternity, a notorious cult group operating in the state.

In a related raid on 17th November 2025, officers targeted black spots in Ibagwa-Francis and Amorji-Nike areas of Enugu East Local Government Area. This resulted in the arrest of Chinedum Mba, 37, with six large wraps of Ghanaian Loud and other Cannabis Sativa variants, each valued at approximately ₦100,000.

Additionally, John Olaiya and Onyia Oluebube, both 20, were apprehended in Ibagwa-Francis, with unquantified amounts of similar substances recovered.

The Enugu Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), with the aim of prosecuting all suspects to the fullest extent of the law.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, reassured the public:
“We are resolute in our mission to rid Enugu State of unrepentant criminals. Our focus remains on curbing drug trafficking, tackling cultism, and ensuring the safety of all residents, particularly as the festive season approaches.”

The Command also urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and report any suspicious activity, emphasizing that community vigilance is critical to the fight against crime.
