The Diocese of Kaduna, Anglican Communion, has announced the tragic death of The Venerable Edwin Achi, Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, who was abducted alongside his wife on October 28, 2025.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Diocese said it received the news “with heavy hearts and deep sorrow,” confirming that Ven. Achi had “passed unto glory” while in captivity.
According to the Church, the loss is a devastating blow not only to the Diocese but to the wider Christian community. “His transition is a painful loss to the entire Diocese, the clergy, the Church family, and all who were blessed by his faithful ministry, humble spirit, and unwavering devotion to the service of God,” the statement read.
The Diocese also appealed for continued prayers and urgent intervention for the release of his wife and daughter, who remain in the custody of the kidnappers. “We continue to pray for the release of his wife and daughter who are still in the hands of the kidnappers,” the Church noted.
The incident has again raised concerns over rising insecurity across the country, particularly targeted attacks on clerics and worship communities.
