A wave of panic swept through Samaru in Zaria, Kaduna State, on Tuesday after a significant quantity of live ammunition fell from a moving commercial vehicle directly in front of Ahmadu Bello University’s (ABU) main gate along the Zaria–Funtua highway.
The disturbing incident was first revealed by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who posted a video on his verified X handle on Wednesday. The footage shows scattered bullets lying on the highway as stunned bystanders attempt to gather them.
According to Makama, the ammunition slipped from a passenger bus reportedly heading towards Katsina State, sparking fear and confusion among students, pedestrians, and motorists who witnessed the scene.
An eyewitness identified simply as Musa recounted the moment the bullets fell.
“We suddenly saw the bullets drop from the bus as it sped past the gate. Before people could understand what happened, the vehicle had already disappeared,” he said.
Musa added that bystanders quickly moved to collect the spilled ammunition and immediately notified nearby security operatives.
A student who preferred to remain anonymous described the situation as “strange and frightening,” noting that many feared the bullets might have been linked to armed groups operating in areas of Kaduna and Katsina States.
Makama confirmed that security personnel later arrived at the scene and recovered the ammunition.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities have not issued any official statement on the incident, and the destination or intention of the vehicle remains unknown.
