The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu State Chapter, has applauded the re-election of Dr. Uchenna Cyril Anioke as a Director and member of the International Publishers Association (IPA) Executive Committee.
In a congratulatory message, the Chairman of NUJ Enugu, Comrade Obinna Ogbuka, described Dr. Anioke as “a distinguished journalist, publisher, and writer who has made significant contributions to the industry.”
He urged Anioke to continue leveraging his expertise to uplift the global publishing sector.
The NUJ expressed pride in Anioke’s rising international profile and encouraged him to use his influence to advance the publishing industry not only in Nigeria but across Africa and the world.
Recall that Dr. Anioke’s re-election was announced on November 25 by IPA Secretary-General José Borghino during the 2025 General Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Enugu-born publisher and former President of the Nigerian Publishers Association (NPA) will serve another three-year term starting January 2026.
Our correspondent reports that the International Publishers Association (IPA), established in 1896, currently comprises 105 member organizations across 84 countries. The IPA promotes global publishing standards, defends human rights within the industry, and partners with institutions such as the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The association remains a leading voice against censorship, a strong defender of copyright, and a promoter of literacy worldwide.
*“We are happy that the world is recognising excellence. Dr. Anioke is a seasoned journalist, renowned publisher and deserved to be re-elected in the global world to impact the knowledge garnered in the field. We are not surprised that he is soaring across the globe representing NUJ Enugu State and the entire country.
“We wish him well and urge him to use his experiential to uplift the publishing industry and literally work, not only in Enugu but Nigeria, Africa and the world,”* he said.
