The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed a deadly assault on its Bakin Ruwa Checkpoint under the Tuga Border Patrol Formation in Kebbi State, where unidentified gunmen killed three officers and destroyed operational facilities.

In a statement issued by the Service Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, the attack occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, leaving the checkpoint in ruins.

According to him, “the assault resulted in the deaths of three immigration personnel, while operational assets and facilities at the checkpoint were destroyed during the incident.”

Following the attack, the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, ordered an immediate tactical response, activating a series of heightened security measures along the affected border corridor.

The NIS outlined its response plan, noting that it includes:

  • deployment of reinforcements,
  • intensified joint operations with sister security agencies,
  • enhanced intelligence gathering along the Tuga axis, and
  • increased patrols across the area.

The Service urged residents to stay vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.

It added: “Members of the public are advised to remain calm and continue providing useful information to security agencies as efforts to secure the border corridor are stepped up.”
