The Anambra State Police Command has announced a grim development in the ongoing investigation into the alleged kidnapping of three Cameroonian women, confirming the recovery of two decomposed bodies believed to be among the victims.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, said operatives made the discovery during a coordinated search operation along the Omambala River in Anambra West Local Government Area.
“On the evening of 28th November 2025, our operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, working with professional river divers and local volunteers, recovered two female decomposed bodies suspected to be victims of the kidnapping incident,” Tochukwu said.
He noted that the victims’ family members were immediately contacted, adding that they “positively identified the recovered bodies as Mrs. Bognou Alice and Miss Sandra.”
The bodies have been deposited in a mortuary for further examination as part of ongoing investigative procedures.
According to the police, two suspects earlier arrested—Nonso Augustine Akpeh (37) and Kingsley Akpeh (44)—are still in custody and have been providing what the police describe as “vital information” to aid the investigation.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered an intensified search to locate the third missing woman and to apprehend the fleeing suspect, Uchenna Nicholas Mmadu.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and friends. The Command will not relent until the remaining victim is found and every suspect involved is brought to justice,” the Commissioner said, reaffirming the police command’s commitment to public safety and justice.
The Anambra Police Command urged the public to remain calm and continue supporting ongoing efforts as investigations progress.
