The Anambra State Police Command has moved decisively to counter widespread panic triggered by circulating voice notes and unverified security warnings on social media, assuring residents that the situation is under control and that enhanced surveillance measures are fully underway.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Command emphasized that it is treating the situation with utmost seriousness. “The Command is not taking lightly the panic-inducing voice notes and unstable security messages currently circulating on social media by unidentified individuals,” Tochukwu said.

As part of its response, the police have intensified security surveillance, reinforced visibility policing, and expanded both routine and targeted patrols across all areas mentioned in the audio recordings.

According to the Command, early findings reveal that the circulating messages “lack verified credibility.” Nonetheless, Tochukwu stressed that the police are adopting “proactive measures to ensure that no security concern—whether real or fabricated—is left unattended.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Units, and Joint Security Teams to remain on heightened alert. They have been ordered to strengthen intelligence gathering and sustain aggressive day-and-night patrol operations throughout the state.

The Command urged residents to remain calm and go about their lawful activities without fear. “Ndi Anambra are assured that Police operatives remain firm, vigilant, and fully committed to their constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property across the State,” Tochukwu stated.

Citizens were also advised to stop circulating unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic. The statement cautioned that spreading such content may attract legal consequences.

For emergencies or requests for assistance, the public is encouraged to contact the Anambra State Police via the Control Room Hotline: 07039194332 or the Emergency Number: 112.
