The Anambra State Police Command has announced a major security breakthrough after operatives arrested a suspected member of a proscribed secessionist group who allegedly escaped from a criminal camp in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the arrest followed the strengthened visibility policing and expanded surveillance operations ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD.
SP Tochukwu said the suspect, identified as Emmanuel Osuigwe, was apprehended on the evening of 30th November 2025 by officers attached to the Ozubulu Police Division working in collaboration with the Ozubulu Central Vigilante.
“The suspect was observed acting suspiciously at Amakwa, Ozubulu. On sighting the patrol team, he attempted to conceal himself, prompting the operatives to stop and conduct a search,” the police spokesperson said.
During the search, officers reportedly discovered a handcuff wound on the suspect, alongside a recovered handcuff, further heightening suspicion.

“The suspect allegedly confessed that he is a member of the proscribed secessionist group and had recently escaped from a camp in Ukpor following a disagreement with other members,” SP Tochukwu stated.
He added that the suspect is currently in custody, where he is undergoing further questioning.
“He has already provided useful information that is aiding ongoing investigations,” Tochukwu confirmed.
Reassuring the public, the Command emphasized its commitment to sustaining peace and security across Anambra State.
“The Anambra State Police Command assures residents of continued efforts to maintain peace, security, and public safety. Further developments will be communicated as the investigation progresses,” SP Tochukwu said.
The arrest marks another success in the Command’s intensified security operations aimed at combating criminal groups and restoring confidence among residents.
