Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), deepening the turmoil within the opposition party’s national leadership.

The announcement was made late Monday night by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, who revealed in a statement that his principal had withdrawn from the party since November 4, 2025.

According to Rasheed, Governor Adeleke’s resignation letter was addressed to the PDP Chairman for Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede North Local Government Area of Osun State.

In the letter, the governor linked his decision to the widening crisis engulfing the PDP at the national level.

“Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect.”

Governor Adeleke also expressed gratitude to the party for providing him platforms to serve both as Senator representing Osun West and later as Governor of Osun State.

“Governor Adeleke thanked the Party for the opportunities given to him to serve as Senator representing Osun West and as governor of Osun State under the Peoples Democratic Party,” the statement added.

The political future of the first-term Osun governor has been the subject of intense speculation amid the continuing legal controversies over the party’s standing and leadership legitimacy.

There have also been unconfirmed reports suggesting that Governor Adeleke may have aligned with the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, as internal schisms continue to rock the PDP nationwide.
