The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that two persons have died and nine others were injured in a major multiple-vehicle crash along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway on Wednesday.

The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Enugu State, Mr. Franklin Agbakoba, disclosed the details to journalists shortly after rescue operations were concluded at the scene.

Agbakoba said the crash involved 11 vehicles and a total of 30 people, comprising 26 males and four females. According to him, “Nine males sustained varying degrees of injury, while two victims unfortunately lost their lives.”

He explained that the accident occurred at about 11:45 a.m. on the Port Harcourt–bound lane of the expressway, specifically around the New Garki axis of Enugu State.

The sector commander listed the vehicles involved as four trucks, two trailers, one Sienna bus, one tipper, one Hiace bus, one mini-bus and one Jeep.

Agbakoba praised the swift response of FRSC personnel, noting that operatives from the Ozalla Unit Command arrived within 10 minutes of the crash to begin rescue operations.

“Officers and men of FRSC Ozalla Unit Command were later joined by other nearby units and personnel of other security agencies,” he said.

He added that the injured victims were immediately transported to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu, and the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ozalla, by the FRSC Zebra 32 Ambulance team stationed along the route.

Agbakoba also confirmed that the crash site was cleared promptly. “The obstructions were removed by FRSC and Enugu State Traffic Management Authority tow-truck teams to restore traffic flow,” he said.
